Tennis player, Ashleigh Barty has become the first Australian woman to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish in 41 years.

She defeated on Saturday night (AEST) Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3 6-7 6-3 on a landmark day in Australian sporting history.
In 1971, her Indigenous idol and mentor Evonne Goolagong won her first Wimbledon title. And won again after having a child in 1980.
The 25–year-old said “I hope I’ve made Evonne proud.”
She played after recovering from the hip injured, she suffered at the French Open, local media reported.
she revealed how close she came to missing the tournament.
“Just even chatting to my team now, once we’ve come off the court, they kept a lot of cards close to their chest and didn’t tell me a lot of the odds.”
Barty’s father, Robert, is a descendant of the Ngarigo tribe. This aboriginal group from New South Wales was all but wiped out by diseases brought by European settlers. (Her mother, Josie, hails from England.) Reported SporCasting
Ashleigh is currently the National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador for Tennis Australia. The goal of the organization is to promote more indigenous participation in tennis.
