Andrei Danilov, a Saami politician, and human rights activist was released from jail on Friday the 3rd of September 2021.
Mr Danilov was arrested on Sunday, 29th of July 2021, when he was attending a festival in the Russian region of Murmansk, after “he was found guilty of disobeying police”, Novaya Gazeta newspaper reported.
“We are happy to let you know that Mr Danilov was released on Friday”. Said today, a Saami Council spokesperson to Indigenous News of the World.
Mr Danilov was arrested after he refused Russian police researched his belongings without a witness and filmed the incident with his mobile phone.

“We have many things ahead of us.” The human rights activist said in a Facebook video.
Danilov is a member of the Saami Council, a non-governmental organization founded in 1956 that advocates for the rights of the Saami people living in Norway, Finland, Sweden and Russia.
